SMC
Press Conference Announces New Collaboration
SMC,
(Samick Music Corp.) hosted a press conference, during NAMM, at the
Coast Anaheim Hotel January 19, 2005 with the announcement of the collaboration
with nationally recognized writer, speaker and guitarist, Ravi, to be
the national clinician for Greg Bennett electric guitars. Dealers and
Sales Reps from all over the world came together to see a live press
conference with SMC endorsee Greg Bennett and to meet the newest edition
to SMC, Ravi. Throughout the press conference, Bennett and Ravi touched
on many dynamics about their careers, lives and the guitar clinics they
teach all around the world.
Ravi
said, "The press conference was a wonderful opportunity to launch
my collaboration with Greg Bennett and SMC. I am very pleased with the
enthusiasm the media, as well as the company representatives and retailers
present, showed for my endorsement of the product, appreciation for
SMC's honorable marketing strategy, and concept for the 'Instant Guitarification'
clinics, which breaks away from the traditional guitar clinic. Additionally,
I look forward to continued positive relations with the press in my
efforts to promote the value of independent retailers in the music instrument
industry."
Greg
Bennett stated, "I am thrilled with the opportunity to work with
such a talented young man. Ravi understands our missions and the goal
that I and SMC have, which is to design and manufacture high-quality
guitars that are affordable."
SMC is the world's largest manufacturer and distributor
of pianos and guitars, located at 18521 Railroad Street, City of Industry
CA 91748, USA. SMC manufactures and distributes Greg Bennett and Silvertone
branded guitars and accessories. For more information on Greg Bennett

RAVI JOINS GREG BENNETT GUITARS
AND SMC FOR NATIONAL ELECTRIC GUITAR CLINICS
SMC (Samick Music Corp.), the world's largest guitar and piano manufacturer,
announces the collaboration with nationally recognized writer, speaker
and guitarist, Ravi, to be the national clinician for Greg Bennett
electric guitars. This alliance will be officially introduced to the
industry at the NAMM Convention press conference, Anaheim, CA, in
January. At the convention, Ravi will meet with dealers, conduct product
demos, and showcase clinics on stage in the company's massive booth
(the largest on the showroom floor), which will pave the way for ongoing
clinics throughout the country in 2005.
"We approached Ravi because we wanted someone who
knows guitars, plays guitars, and can intelligently and eloquently
speak about guitars," says William Traylor, Vice President of
Marketing for SMC. "The combination of his abilities as a professional
performer, writer, and speaker make him uniquely qualified."
Greg Bennett, who designed the extensive line of guitars,
agrees: "Ravi's obvious talent as a musician and skills as a
communicator make him perfectly suited to achieving Samick's marketing
goals. More importantly to me, however, is Ravi's deep empathy with
traditional music dealers and the challenges they face. Samick, as
well as the guitar industry, is fortunate to have Ravi encouraging
young players to 'live the dream' with integrity."
Ravi, an artist whose credits span from the dives of
Manhattan to the White House, tours the country performing original
music and, as a consultant, lecturing on crucial issues facing the
music industry. He has appeared on Letterman, Leno, Saturday Night
Live, Today Show, Good Morning America, and countless other television
shows; and has performed in the most prestigious venues including
Madison Square Garden and the Louisiana Superdome - the world's largest
indoor arena. The "creme de la creme" of the entertainment
industry frequently calls on Ravi. Mercury Records/PolyGram sought
him out in 1997 to play guitar with three-time Grammy nominee Hanson
(the top selling band in the world that year). Simon & Schuster
later published his tour journal/autobiography. Don Ienner, president
of Sony/Columbia Records, solicited Ravi to teach his son guitar.
Berklee College of Music, Pepperdine University, and others, including
most music business conferences, host his lectures. Electronic Musician,
Onstage, and Musician magazines feature Ravi's articles, and he is
a regular columnist for the Music & Sound Retailer. Additionally,
he spearheads efforts to raise the integrity level of the arts community
and society in general - http://www.artisticintegrity.org/.
"I pride myself in playing some of the finest (and most expensive)
instruments in the marketplace, and Greg Bennett guitars have not
only impressed me, but won me over in recognizing that fine quality
instruments are available at very affordable prices," says Ravi.
"Greg Bennett Guitars play and sound better than many instruments
costing two or three times as much, and are also more visually inspiring
- making them the best value on the market. These are all important
considerations in my accepting this position, as I like to see players
using instruments that truly inspire and facilitate musical growth.
At these price-points, such instruments are available to every musician!
I look forward to inspiring guitarists and dealers to recognize the
value, and to a long and prosperous relationship with Greg and SMC."
Ravi's clinics are multidimensional, designed to uncover
the many attributes of each guitar through practical application in
making music. The clinics showcase the potential of layering guitar
tones by incorporating home recording tools and techniques. This format
also explores a broader scope of products and opportunities available
in creating music, well beyond the traditional guitar clinic. Ravi's
presentations are highly educational, entertaining, and inspiring.
More information on Ravi is available at http://www.heyravi.com/ and

From the SMC website:
"For almost 40 years Samick has manufactured product for the
leading brand names in the guitar business. In the process, we learned
a great deal about not only what goes into a great guitar, but how
to produce it at an affordable price. We also realized that the ability
to produce quality product at an affordable price was only half the
equation. There needed to be an all out effort to develop a powerful
new identity for the product and our company.
We needed an entirely new line. For this enormous task,
we called on Greg Bennett, an industry marketing and design veteran
of almost 30 years. Gregs experience in high level marketing
positions with the industrys leading manufacturers and retailers,
coupled with a formal design and performance background, made him
uniquely qualified. The challenge was to take the majority of credible
design or style categories and design product that in effect paid
tribute to the original designs while creating a new and unique perspective.
Players want to have something special or unique, but
they want it to have a familiar feel. Because of the sheer scope of
the project, there needed to be an intense point of view in order
to create a sense of continuity across the entire line. The designs
were conceptualized, designed and refined in Gregs studio in
Nashville. Once the designs were completed, the challenge shifted
to sourcing and manufacturing. Professional caliber electronics and
hardware as well as distinctive tone woods were sourced from exotic
locations over the entire globe: ovangkohl and ebony from Africa,
rosewood from India and rock maple from North America, pickups from
Duncan and Fishman®, tuners by Grover and bridges
by Wilkinson. We performed a complete upgrade in wiring and
onboard electronics. The acoustic guitars also received a thorough
structural overhaul. Finally the instruments are set up and inspected
before going out to the player. This has truly been a labor of love
for both Greg and the people at Samick."
